Today is the last day of my leave.  Was good to have a break away from work and just clear the mind.  Enjoy today’s tidbits from my RSS feedreader.

RSS update – 17 August 2007 and birthdays

It was my birthday yesterday so I though it would be interesting to see who I share it with.  One I always knew and that is Madonna, she is actually also the same age as me.  The other is a techie thing … Debian started on 16 August, 14 years ago.

Spend some time at the beach and here is photo of Table Mountain under cloud cover.

The last thing bloggers want to see.

I just visited the blog of a well known blogger here in SA after reading his latest posting in my RSS reader.  This is what greeted me:

I have blotted out the server name so that no-one can detect whose blog it is.  I suppose this is something all of us bloggers that host our own blogs have to deal with.  Databases that can go down or endless hassles when upgrading software as Max found out.

Good to be a South African!! — Synthasite

One of the RSS feeds that show up in my feed reader is of Ajax MagazineOne of the feeds was on Synthasite, developed in Cape Town, South Africa.

It is good to see work done in South Africa gets mentioned on prominent international sites and being tested by big companies like Amazon.

Synthasite is also being tested on
Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud, which in theory allows it to be
infinitely scalable, although accounts will initially be limited.

I have not had a look at Synthasite yet but will give it a test and see how it performs.

Well done to Vinny and the team .. keep up the good work.

Little piece of software I cannot live without — it is realy great.

Want spell checking, thesaurus (even used it to look up the spelling of this), Wikipedia, Wiktionary and more from any application then head over to WordWeb.  After you install this little gem then it just sits in your system tray and wait on you to CNTRL-rightclick on a word and open pops all the info you need about that word.
