Lara Smit – Boernooi: school theater – Durbanville High

My daughter is in the Durbanville Highschool theater group and they have a 1-act play that made it through to the finals of the ATKV competition that will be held at the end of this month at Aardklop in Potchefstroom.  Only 10 plays from accross the country made it to the finals in Potch. Aardklop.

This is the group of youngster that will make the trek all the way to Potch and show the world how good they are.  My daughter is the one 5th from the left in the back row.  She play’s the role of the grand-mother and also the school teacher.

I have seen this play a couple of times and it is really good.  It you in the Potch area on 29 and 30 September, then go and support them.

Day too late for me: Burglaries

In today’s Cape Argus and on IOL:

Durbanville and Bellville police are warning
residents to be on high alert and to ensure that they set their house alarms at night – even when they’re inside the house.

Police say a number of burglary gangs are targeting houses in those areas.

New research has shown that during the past year, house robberies increased by 13,5 percent and a staggering 97 percent of all robbers are armed.

This is the latest in crime intelligence research done by Dr Rudolph Zinn, senior lecturer in the School of Criminal Justice at Unisa, in an intensive study on house robberies and robbers.

Zinn, a professor in the department of forensic and crime investigation, said almost 15 000 residential robberies were committed last year.

Photoshoot — Durbanville area

Yesterday, when there was a break in the whether, I took a drive to an area just outside Durbanville to go take some photos.  It was an overcast day which is perfect for photography.  Here are some of my photos.  I did no post processing on the photos.  People familiar with the area will immediately recognise the area.

Love the contrast between the old and new.

With autumn, the colours in the vineyards are just amazing.

And found some wildlife just next to the road.

Hoe oud voel ek nou – Durbanville HS Reunie

Daar was ‘n reunie (wat ek nie bygewoon het nie) van die 1976 Durbanville HS Matrieks en ek het nou net na fotos van die reunie gekyk.  Terwyl ek so deur die fotos blaai, dink ek by myself.  EK herken nie een van die mense nie. Uit 163 matrieks behoort mens seker darem so een of 2 te onthou.  Daar was geen name by die fotos nie so het die mense so baie verander oor die 32/33 jaar dat ek geen een van hulle herken nie.

As daar enige 1976 Durbanville HS Matrieks is wat hier lees, laat gerus van julle hoor.
