We will win the Rugby World Cup & RSS feed update – 7 October 2007

Next Sunday evening it is us vs Argentina in the second semi-final of the world cup.  By that time we should know already who we going to play in the final.  Yes, I believe we going to win the semi and with the 4 teams left in the RWC, I just cannot see how we cannot win this one.  I just hope that I am not talking too soon but I cannot see either one of Argentina, France or England beating us.  I would love to see us playing France in the final, just for the atmosphere, but that would be the most difficult one in front of the fanatic French supporters.

Rugby World Cup – can there be more upsets?

Surely we cannot have a third upset in the Quarter Finals of World Cup?  Here I am talking about Fiji beating us this afternoon.  Both my heart and my head said this is impossible.  Strangely I thought the same yesterday morning about yesterday’s games and we all know what happened.  England send the Aussies packing and France said goodbye to the All Blacks.

At least in my books, the result of the forth game would not be a real upset.  It is already an upset that Argentina play’s in the quarters.  The real upset would come when SA and Argentina meet next week in the Semis and Argentina beat us to reach the finals to play England.  Wow, that would be one for the bookies. Wonder what odds I would get of this happening?

Chokers!!!!!

Only one word today — useless chokers – ok 2.  And every sports loving South African knows what I am talking about.  Less than a week ago we all mocked the Poms when we beat them first in the Rugby and then the Cricket. 

How difficult can it be to get to 126 runs, but then when winning is the only thing this bunch think about, they do not care about the longer term like rather losing this one so just to play tomorrow again..

Hope this is not an omen of what is to come in the Rugby — that one game that SA have to won and then they go on to loose it.

Wikimania, Rugby World Cup 2007, Twenty20 and RSS update

How good was it to see the Boks kick the Poms ass on Friday evening.  I am sure that today the same will happen in the Twenty20.

A while ago I commented about the spy saga in F1.  This past week McLaren was found guilty and stripped of all their constructors points and fined $100 million dollars.  Why Alonso was not punished, I do not know since I believe he had a hand in all this?

The minnows at it again — Twenty20 cricket

As a follow-up to my earlier post, Bangladesh send the West Indies packing.  Just shows one, never ever underestimate anybody or anything.

The West Indies together with Australia were the earlier favorites.  West Indies is gone and Australia lost to Zimbabwe yesterday evening.  This makes life just a little easier for South Africa.

The year of the minnows ..

At both the Rugby World Cup and the Twenty20 world cup it is the minnows and second string teams that are stealing the limelight.

It all started on Friday when Argentina  beat France at the RWC.  Then Namibia played out of their skins against Ireland and USA did not give up against England.  Even last night most people probably thought that Italy would run rampant over Romania.  This did not happen.

But our neighbors went one better yesterday evening in the Twenty20 cricket.  Zimbabwe beat the mighty Australians.  This is just great.

Rugby World Cup and Twenty20 Cricket – Schalk’s ban??

Flicked between 2 channels yesterday evening watching some Rugby and Cricket.

One thing that strikes me from this year’s World Cup is how well the lesser teams play.  Last night it was the turn of Georgia.  I just hope that they do not give their all for the first game and then there is nothing left for the rest of the tournament.  Poor Schalk, did he deserve a 4 match ban? —  if I count correctly that will include the first quarter final match.

Onto the cricket.  After Gayle’s whirlwind 117 who would have thought that South Africa would have won the game with 14 balls to spare.  Well done to the boys.  Pity on Graham’s hand though — will have to see what affect this will have on the rest of the tournament.  Also looks like Gibbs is not at his best with the fact that he had to use a runner.

RWC – South Africa, Namibia and RSS Update for 9 September 2007

So South Africa had their first game. All in all, it was not bad at all.  Samoa played a very spoiling game and I think South Africa probably played as well as they were allowed to play.

I just finished watching the Namibia, Ireland game and how impressed was I with the Namibians.  They made a lot of friends tonight.  The score flattered Ireland.  If one take away the penalty try and the last try from Ireland, which was not a try, then there was nothing in the score.  And it was nice to see a Bock playing in the World Cup.  The wing for Namibia is Heini Bock, no not family.

RWC 2007 — French disaster!

I was not intending to blog about the Rugby World Cup but after last night’s disaster (looking from a French perspective), I had to pick up the keyboard. Have to agree with Mike, the opening ceremony was not good at all – that is the bit I saw since I left half way to go pick-up my daughter.  This also meant I missed the anthems but believe that the Argentineans gave it their all.

The game itself was one off tenacity from Argentina.  Never giving up and always right in the faces of  the French.  If this is what the second string teams are going to be like then the Boks better watch out for Somoa tomorrow.  They can be just as physical and tenacious as Argentina.

I just hope that Tony Spreadbury is not an indication of the quality of the refs to come.  What a bad day he had at the office.

Today looks like a one sided day with big guns playing the real small guys, maybe with the exception of New Zealand vs Italy.  NZ should still easily win that one.

Today is also the start of the Rugby World Cup being held in France.  As a patriotic South African I do support the Boks … good luck to them and I honestly think they have the team to bring the cup back.
