Stormhoek is having a bloggers braai on their farm this coming Friday, 23 March. Wish I had the time to attend this as it looks like a great lot of fun but unfortunately cannot make it. For all those attending, have a great time. If you want to go then sign up here … be quick since they only take 25 people. And they will even give you a sleeping place if you taste too much of their nice wines.

Are you in SA and an Amstel beer drinker?
I suggest you stock up — with Heineken canceling the contract with SAB for distributing Amstel, it looks like there will be a dry patch for all you Amstel drinkers….
If you do run out then I suggest you switch to either Windhoek Lager or Heineken … please do not switch to Castle or Lion — you will regret it the morning after.
Skaak Saterdag
PS. For my non-Afrikaans visitors … if you need a translation of this then just shout — it is about chess and drivers license.

Bought a new car today
As mentioned before, I am currently looking to buy a new car. Went to test drive a Ford Focus 1.6 SI Sport today and a hour later I have bought it. So if everything goes as it should with registration, finance ect I should have a brand spanking new Oyster Silver Ford Focus by the end of the week.
Hmmm, was about time I give myself a big Christmas present :).
On another note — I am catching up on some reading. Eragon the movie is opening here in South Africa on Friday and when I browsed through a bookshop yesterday, I came accross the Box Set of Eragon and Eldest books. I was always disappointed reading books after seeing the movie, so this time around I have decided to read the book first before watching the movie.
Hooray!!! … I’am on leave
Yesterday was my last day before a long break from work. How nice it will be to wake up in the morning and not think about meetings, customers and things work related. Sorry IBM, I am going to try to give you as little as possible of my time.
So what is on my agenda: (no not plans, since I am sure some of these I will not get too)
- Play a lot of golf — officially join a club again (looks like it will be Bellville Golf Club)
- Find a new car — either a Honda Civic Hatch or Ford Focus 2.0 ST Hatch
- Visit some family
- Go to the beach
- Work on a pet project of mine: (visit http://www.tee-time.za.net/ and you will see — if there is any golf clubs that is interested in it then just contact me and I will point you in the right direction)
- and anything I feel like doing when I get up in the mornings.
Saying goodbye to SCS (Safmarine Computer Service)
Last night we said farewell to SCS on our way to becoming IBM. What a nostalgic evening, talking about the good times, bad times and more importantly the fun times. Although I was only with SCS for the last 18 months, SCS started in 1974 so there was a lot of stories to be told. And believe it but 3 SCSers from that era is still around today.
Thanks to Tertia (our famous writer and celebrity in making) that arranged this memorable evening and also Paul and Richard who will be footing the bill. Oh and thanks for the great gift .. will come in handy looking into the far distance.
It was a great evening enjoyed by everybody — great food, great music and great people. Now we will wait for the 5th of December to see if IBM can do the same with our Welcome party 🙂
Joined the virtual world of Second Life
After reading about IBM’s use and involvement in Second Life on Andy Piper’s blog, I decided that I should also give it a try and see what all the fuss is about.
Maybe it is my bandwidth (384kb/s ADSL), but I find it extremely slow. It will take me a while to find my way around it but have only spend a couple of minutes on it.
Time will tell whether I will stay.

Back from a week in Belgium
I just returned from a week in Belgium on business. What a great trip, the weather was probably the best that Belgium has seen in who knows how many years. Daily temperature around 25 degrees.
I drank a lot of great beer, Leffe Blond, Duvel and who knows what else and all of it was great. Nothing in South Africa can compare with it. And then in the mornings to have great strong coffee to be able to get on with the day after all the beers of the previous evening.
And then the people is so friendly and looks like they have no worries in the world.
On my way back I flew on SAA and what a disaster. The entertainment center did not work and they could not fix it and I sat the whole way next to the English old bag that could not stop chatting and kept on telling me how great England is and how crap the Irish is.
Oh and can somebody answer me why Belgium woman is not fat. I did not see any real fat and big Belgium woman. All of them is good looking and have great bodies. Must be all the cycling they do. There must be more bicycles on the roads than cars.
Cannot wait for my next visit.
